The Open Source Development Model
Friday, April 28, 2006 by digitalpeer

For years, I've been involved in open source projects as a user, an onlooker, and as a contributor. One can't help but notice that some downright great software has evolved from the open source model. This has caused many people, and companies, to observe the phenomenon as a model of software development. Rightfully so. Open source software is hitting niches that proprietary software isn't noticing and it's also producing better software than direct proprietary competitors in many cases. Why is this happening? Maybe the two are closely related. Maybe proprietary software developers are not being fulfilled. Maybe the mediocrity of corporate business models are just not enough.
This is a small presentation on the open source development model. Goes over some of the ideas and philosophies of open source development as a real world software development model.
