In my case I switched monitors and the frequency and resolution where too high. To fix this, look in your /etc/X11/XF86Config file and near the top it will define the monitor and video card difinitions it is using in the section "ServerLayout." Find those definitions for your monitor and video card and edit them to only contain definitions you are capable of using.
