Clay Shirky: Institutions vs. collaboration

This is a rather interesting talk that takes some very foundational ideas from open source software development, P2P networks, and social networking and implies that these paradigms can apply to a lot more.
See, you not only have to be a good coder to create a system like Linux, you have to be a sneaky bastard, too.

Is this really a virus?

Awhile back, you could crash IE 6 with the following HTML code.
<html>
<form>
<input type crash>
</form>
</html>
It has just come to my attention, interestingly enough, that Norton Antivirus now detects this file as a virus. It's not a virus. It will do nothing except crash IE. It's a coding bug.
This does nothing but secure my stance on not needing an antivirus in the first place. It may seem that we need antivirus software to make sure downloaded files are safe to execute. However, this will never be a safe solution. Even further, why do we need antivirus software to cover holes in the operating system and other software? Having software protect you from bugs and holes in other software is moronic to say the least.
The fact that Windows is possibly going to include virus detection internaly in the future is nothing but a sham. It's a poor excuse and it makes people falsly feel secure about using their computer instead of actually learning about their computer. It is this very type of propaganda that sells to and feeds the ignorant, and simply unknowing, computer users.
