Clay Shirky: Institutions vs. collaboration

This is a rather interesting talk that takes some very foundational ideas from open source software development, P2P networks, and social networking and implies that these paradigms can apply to a lot more.

There are two ways of constructing a software design. One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies. And the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies.

Digitalpeer Impersonator Alert

Friday, December 9, 2005 by digitalpeer

I googled my name, digitalpeer, because we all do, and ran across something rather interesting. Somebody had setup a website on Freeservers with the address http://digitalpeer.4t.com. He calls himself "The Peer" and has everything labeled with "digitalpeer." The website was aweful on the eyes, but who am I to judge. This was all fine and dandy until I saw my logo as his logo. Then, I looked at his source and saw my source as his source. Then, I got kinda steamed when I noticed he was sourcing my site for the images, CSS, and Javascript. He literally copied it line for line, cusswords and all- without giving me any credit. Anyhow, I had that website removed within 12 hours. If that website was yours, contact me so I can let you know how to be a real digitalpeer.

Here's a screenshot of the page http://digitalpeer.4t.com/cgi-bin/framed/2235/index.htm
